RIVERSIDE. El retorno del gigante progresivo. The return of the progressive giant.

Los días 26 y 27 de Febrero de 2017 suponían el regreso después de un año del trágico fallecimiento de su guitarrista en la noche del 20 de Febrero de 2016 tras haber asistido al concierto de The Winery Dogs en Warszawa.

On 26 and 27 of February of 2017, Riverside were returning after a year since the tragic death of their guitarist on the night of 20th February 2016 after having attended The Winery Dogs concert in Warszawa.

Una noticia que nos dejo devastados y que marco un obligado parón en la actividad en directo del grupo.

The news next morning left all the fans devastated and forced the band to stop their live activity.

Tras tomarse un tiempo para enfocar de nuevo el futuro anunciaron que harían una actuación en la sala Progresja con la ayuda de guitarristas amigos.

After taking some time to focus on their future, they announced that they would make a concert at Progresja club with the help of some friends.

Tras quedar completamente vendida dicha fecha, por suerte anunciaron una segunda a la que tuve la suerte de asistir.

After being completely sold out in short notice for the first date, luckily they announced a second date to which I was lucky to attend.

Un concierto que, a mi modesto entender, sobrepaso las barreras entre publico y banda para reflejar una comunión perfecta y una explosion de sentimientos por la perdida de Piotr pero también un reflejo de que el publico apoyaba su decision de continuar.

That was a concert which vanished the barriers between public and band to reflect a perfect communion and an explosion of feelings by the loss of Piotr but also manage to reflect the approval from the audience to their decision to return.

Durante aproximadamente 2 horas y media el grupo dio un repaso por toda su discografía. Fue un recorrido en el que estuvieron acompañados por, en primer lugar, Maciej Meller amigo del bajista y vocalista Mateusz Duda y que según lo que entendí será su guitarrista en las giras.

During approximately 2 hours and a half the band go through almost all their discography. It was a concert in which they were joined by Maciej Meller (a friend of the bass player and vocalist Mateusz Duda) who will be their guitarist on the tours.

En algunas canciones le sustituyó Mateusz Owczarek del grupo Lion Shepperd e incluso en un tema tocaron ambos guitarristas.

In some songs he was replaced by Mateusz Owczarek (from  Lion Shepperd) and even in one song both guitarists played together.

También se unió a ellos en un par de temas Marcin Odyniec tocando instrumentos de viento y aportando un clima especial a dichos temas.

And also joined them on a couple of tracks Marcin Odyniec playing wind instruments and bringing a special mood to those themes.

Para mi fue una velada inolvidable en la que pude participar y que contribuyo a que crezca mi admiración y pasión por este grupo.

For me it was an unforgettable evening in which I was able to take part and that contributed to my growing admiration and passion for this band.

Esto me condujo a mi siguiente aventura con su concierto en Wroclaw en la sala A2 de reciente creación y en la que no había podido estar anteriormente.

This unbelievable experience led me to my next adventure with their concert in Wroclaw in the newly created A2 club where I hadn’t been before.

Junto a ellos, les acompañaban en esta ocasión Sounds Like The End Of The World y Lion Shepperd.

Together with them, they were supported on this polish tour by Sounds Like The End Of The World and Lion Shepperd.

El comienzo de la velada le correspondió a Sounds Like The End Of The World, quienes nos acompañaban con canciones instrumentales y un ambientación poco iluminada para transportar las emociones solamente a través de la música.

The beginning of the evening was for Sounds Like The End Of The World, who delighted us with their instrumental songs and an atmosphere dimly lit to transport the emotions only through their music.

Por tanto era un concierto para dejarse llevar por la instrumentación del grupo. A mi parecer, no fueron especialmente destacados dentro de los grupos que tocaban esa noche. Me falto conectar con ellos.

So it was a concert to get carried away by the instrumentation of the band. In my opinion, they weren’t outstanding between the other bands. I didn’t manage to connect with them, maybe next time I will get in their mood.

Sin embargo, Lion Shepperd me sorprendieron mucho más. Que un grupo de Polonia haga música progresiva con algunos ecos árabes no deja de ser poco menos que curioso.

However, Lion Shepperd surprised me a lot. When a band from Poland make progressive music with some Arab influence is nothing but unexpected.

Probablemente, su vocalista Kamil Haidar tenga algo que ver en ello puesto que su fisonomía me parecía tener alguna ascendencia árabe.

Probably, their singer Kamil Haidar has bring the Arab flavours to their music.

La mezcla encajo muy bien y debo de destacar la labor de su guitarra solista (el antes citado Mateusz Owczarek) que junto con el cantante llevaron el peso de la actuación.

The mix fits very well and I must highlight the work of their solo guitarist (the aforementioned Mateusz Owczarek) who along with the singer carried the weight of the performance.

Un grupo al que, desde luego, seguiré la pista y que recomiendo ver en directo si surge la ocasión.

A band that, of course, I will try to follow on further performances and I recommend watching them live if you have a chance.

Y llegaba el momento de Riverside.

And it was time for Riverside.

Había comenzado una gira por Polonia para desperezar los engranajes y comenzar a hacer rodar de nuevo la maquinaria del grupo.

They had begun a tour in Poland to restart the engine and start rolling the machinery of the band again.

 

Empezaban el concierto los 3 miembros de la banda con un homenaje a su guitarrista fallecido y presentando su intención de continuar con el grupo.

The beginning of their concert was done by the 3 members of the band with a tribute to their deceased guitarist and presenting to the audience their will to continue with the group.

El publico aprobó claramente esa propuesta y el grupo dio inicio al concierto con su nuevo guitarrista Maciej Meller.

The audience clearly approved that proposal and the band started the concert with their new guitarist Maciej Meller.

 

El concierto siguió las pautas del que pude presenciar en Varsovia pero tal vez un poco menos emocional para el grupo. Sin embargo el publico lo recibió con gran entusiasmo como ocurrió en Varsovia.

The concert followed the guidelines that I could witness in Warsaw but maybe a little less emotional for the band. Nevertheless the public received it with great enthusiasm as it happened in Warsaw.

 

Es un gran grupo que voy a seguir en adelante junto a su nueva trayectoria y espero poder verlos junto a otras bandas en Varsovia, pero eso sera ya parte de algo que ocurrirá en Agosto y de lo que esperamos poder contar más en nuestra web.

It is a great band that I will follow with their new phase in their career and I hope to see them together with other bands in Warsaw, but that will be already part of something that should happen in August and what we hope to be able to talk more in our web.
